Meet the Potter

The Potter's Work

Hello! I’m Heather McCollum, a studio potter making hand-thrown functional pottery in small batches.

My work in clay is grounded in the conviction that utility and beauty belong together. I make functional pottery meant to be used every day—pieces that carry feeling, memory, and quiet wonder in the hand. For most of my life I admired pottery from a distance, drawn to the calm authority of a well-made bowl or the comfort of a familiar dish. Over time, that fascination became a need to participate: to touch raw clay, shape it with my own hands, and add something lasting to the world of handmade things.

I’m moved by the work of other makers and the way a cup or plate can transport us across time through weight, curve, and surface. That sense of connection is what I hope to offer—forms built for function, balanced with aesthetics, and finished with care. My goal is simple: pottery that earns a place in daily rituals and, eventually, becomes “the one” a family reaches for year after year.
